Welcome back from April Vacation!  Hope everyone had a wonderful week to relax and take a break from school.  The PTG is having an Open Meeting next week at 6pm. Alcott Field Day: Calling all Field Day Volunteers. No experience necessary.

We need a “small army” of volunteers to make our Field Day a success. I will assign parents to stations. You will need a current CORI form. Alcott Chess: Welcome back, everyone, from April vacation break. Some beautiful weather arrived while you were away. And now the Alcott Chess Tournament has arrived too and is ready to roll.  If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late, as the actual games begin this coming week. See the attached flyer here. Take a moment to sign it and send it in. You'll be glad you did. This tournament is unique. It's designed for Alcott students to win! Everyone gets medals, prizes and t-shirts, and everybody has fun. It's true! Our primary goal is to make it special. So too, participation in the tournament strengthens children's bonds with Alcott School and it is the memory of a lifetime. My son remembers when he played in these Alcott tournaments and that was 25 years ago. Don't let this golden opportunity pass you by. Enroll your children today! Concord Carlisle High School’s Girl-Up Club will be hosting a STEM Workshop for kids aged 8-10 next month! Come on down at the Concord Main Library from 2:00-3:30 on May 4th to make catapults, slime, + more! CC & HL Stick Together! CCHS and Harlem Lacrosse will host CCHS Varsity Boys Lax vs. Newburyport at 11 am and Varsity Girls Lax vs. Brookline at 1 pm at CCHS on April 27.  Harlem Lacrosse serves over 1,000 students nationwide across nineteen programs in five cities and has granted over $40 million in athlete scholarships.  Simon Cataldo, Founder of HL and MA State Rep. will speak. Suggested donation is $5 for students/seniors, $10/adults, and the food truck 'Chicken on the Road' is self-pay & credit cards.  All net proceeds will go directly to Harlem Lacrosse.

Understanding Digital Health & Safety – Monday, May 13th from 7-8 pm in the Willard Auditorium – offered through CCACE: Come hear what nationally known speaker Katie Greer has to say about the digital health and safety of your elementary-age kids. You’ll get tools and strategies to help your kids navigate technology in a safe and productive way and come away with practical solutions to this challenging issue. During the school day, Katie will meet with elementary school students; that evening, she’ll work with parents so you and your kids will be on the same page. This will be an in-person event with time for Q&A at the end. Register at www.concordcarlisleace.org. This event is free and made possible in part by a grant from Concord Carlisle Community Chest. We ask for a suggested donation of $15 to cover future Parent Ed programs.

IMSCC Summer Lessons and Ensembles - enrollment is open!  Summer lessons are open to students of all ages and levels, including adults. Summer is the perfect time to let IMSCC's expert faculty help new students get started on an instrument, prepare older students for auditions, fine-tune technique, or kick back and play some lighter music just for fun. The summer session is flexible to allow for vacation and camp schedules. Fowler Sustainability Studio with Mothers Out Front Saturday, April 27, 11:00—11:45 AM Join us for a special edition of Fowler's Saturday Studio in collaboration with the Concord Chapter of Mothers Out Front, a volunteer-led organization dedicated to ensure a livable climate and better future for all children. This month's theme is Earth Day, and we are excited to welcome guest reader Representative Simon Cataldo to help us explore the roots of this important day of action. Through a mix of stories, songs, and hands-on crafts, we'll explore the history and significance of Earth Day. No Registration Required.

Storytime with Author Bunmi Emenanjo at Fowler Saturday May 4, 3:00—3:45 PM Join author Bunmi Emenanjo and Barefoot Books for a special storytime! Bunmi will share her debut picture book I'll See You in Ijebu, illustrated by Diana Ejaita. In it, a Catholic girl growing up in the bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria takes a trip to spend a week with her Muslim extended family in the countryside town of Ijebu to celebrate Eid al-Adha. Her days in Ijebu are filled with celebrations, traditions and special time connecting with family. Please register on the library event calendar.

West Concord Family Bike Fest at Bradford Mill (43 Bradford St, the back parking lot). Sunday, May 5, 1:00—3:00 PM  Celebrate National Bike Month and get ready for Safe Routes to School’s spring Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day. There will be fun for all ages and abilities, whether you are using a balance bike, just learning to pedal, want to check out an e-bike, or are interested in learning more about accessible biking options. We'll have bike safety courses and tips, bike checks, bike decorating, face painting and more! Sign up for skill-building workshops beginning at 1 pm and 2 pm for children of all skill levels. You can plan your visit around one of these workshops, but there will also be drop-in activities. Happy vacation, Alcott Parents! The wonderful weather has arrived. What a perfect time to take a break. The chess club will take a week break, too, but as a reminder, the Alcott Chess Tournament will be on when you return. 

The fun starts 8 a.m. Thursday, April 25. The first class is a refresher for your children to get them thinking chess again. Thereafter will be 4, count them, 4 games starting May 2, one each week. Everyone plays, everyone wins. We wouldn't have it any other way. And finally, May 30 is Rewards Day when all prizes and medals are distributed. If you haven't registered yet, why are you waiting? We want to hear from you. 

The Alcott Chess Tournament is your children's chess highlight of the school year. The registration form is attached here. Just fill it out and send it in. The name you enter should be exact and be sure to specify medal and t-shirt size. Arts Night on Wednesday, May 29 from 5:30-6:30pm: Please save the date for our 5th Grade Art Retrospective and 4th/5th Chorus Concert. Come walk the gallery halls on the first floor from 5:30-6:00pm to see all of the 5th grade art on display. 5th grade's stop motion animation videos will also be playing in the art room on loop. At 6:00pm, the Alcott Chorus will perform in the auditorium. We hope you'll be able to join us!

7th Annual SEPAC Appreciation Awards - Extended! Spring is coming and so are the Appreciation Awards! Is there a teacher, tutor, counselor, aide, administrator or any other school staff member who has made a difference to your child this year?  

The Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle Regional School District Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) invites families from Concord, Carlisle and Boston with a child on an IEP or 504 Plan to honor a special person (or persons) with a SEPAC Appreciation Award! 

In our 7th year, the SEPAC Appreciation Awards offer families the opportunity to reflect on the school year and to recognize staff members in our districts who have made exceptional efforts to support our students.

Discover Summer Strings Experience & Chamber Music Afternoons at Concord Conservatory July 15-19one-week immersive, fun, and focused programs to enhance skills, enrich artistry, and boost confidence for kids ages 5 - 18. Summer Strings Experience for kids ages 5-14 will enjoy singing, improvising, playing games, and developing their technical skills. Ages 5-7 sign up for half-days, while ages 7-14 enroll in a full-day program, 9 am to 3 pm. Chamber Music Afternoons (3:30 – 5:45 pm) target intermediate to advanced students aged 13-18 who play string, piano, woodwind, or brass instruments. Barefoot Books + ThinkGive: ThinkGive is hosting a free event at Barefoot Books in West Concord (23 Bradford St. 2nd Floor, Concord, MA 01742) on Thursday April 11th from 6:30 - 8:30pm. Join us for drinks and appetizers, a raffle, browse Barefoot Books’ award-winning collection of books for ages 0-12, and hear from ThinkGive leaders and an educator about our efforts to empower youth to take actions that positively impact themselves and others; building character, confidence, and connection. Our partner educators have put together a wish list of books that they would love to be able to bring to their classrooms. 40% of all book sales will be donated to ThinkGive! How Art Can Inspire Civic Engagement in Kids | Free, live Zoom webinar, Thursday, April 25, 7-8pm | Discovery Museum Speaker Series event with Chanel Thervil, Artist + Educator; Inaugural Discovery Museum Artist-in-Residence. Chanel joins us to speak about her experience helping children consider what they love about their communities, so they see a place for themselves in making their communities better. She will share her expertise on how the creative process and experience of artmaking is a powerful tool in giving kids the space to connect, share ideas, and be present for others—all important steps in becoming active civic participants. Discover Summer Strings Experience & Chamber Music Afternoons at Concord Conservatory July 15-19one-week immersive, fun, and focused programs to enhance skills, enrich artistry, and boost confidence for kids ages 5 - 18. Summer Strings Experience for kids ages 5-14 will enjoy singing, improvising, playing games, and developing their technical skills. Ages 5-7 sign up for half-days, while ages 7-14 enroll in a full-day program, 9 am to 3 pm. Chamber Music Afternoons (3:30 – 5:45 pm) target intermediate to advanced students aged 13-18 who play string, piano, woodwind, or brass instruments. They will receive guidance on the technical and musical challenges of their ensemble repertoire. More information here!
