A Message from the PTG

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a great summer! The PTG is excited about the upcoming school year, as we continue to focus on building and strengthening our Alcott community. The Fall is a busy time! Look out for information on our many PTG-supported events, room parent announcements regarding opportunities to get together outside and inside of the school, fundraisers which help make supporting the Alcott community possible, and the many ways to volunteer!  Remember, the Alcott Owl is your go-to weekly source for all that is happening in our school community and beyond, so keep reading, and spread the word!

First Day of School

The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 28th.  This is a half day, meaning dismissal occurs at 12:25.  There is no school on Friday, August 30th and Monday, September 2nd.

Open House

Teachers will be hosting an open house for students on Tuesday, August 27th from 2:00-3:00pm.  This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to meet their new teacher and see their classroom. From 3:00-4:00PM the PTG will host a popsicle party for kindergarteners and their families. Please stay to meet some other new K students!

METCO Family Friends Meet & Greet

Join us on Tuesday, August 27th from 3-4pm [directly following the Alcott Open House] on the school playground. We will be there to welcome you into the MFF community, give the kids time to reconnect/meet, and answer any questions that you have for us. Hope to see you there!

Back to School Night

Save the date for Alcott’s Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 18th.  A more detailed schedule will be released later in the month.

School Supplies

If you did not order supplies through the PTG earlier in the summer, a link to the supply lists for each grade level can be found here.  If this is a financial hardship for your family, please reach out to Alcott's school counselor, Rene Kashmiri (rkashmiri@concordps.org), who will coordinate school supplies for your child.

Bus Assignments

Bus assignments will be available later in the month.  You can access bus routes on the transportation website.

School Lunch

Massachusetts has funded universal free public school breakfast and lunch this year and orders can be placed on the Nutrislice website. If you don't have an account you can create one with your child’s lunch ID. Email Food Services Director Jess Brown (jebrown@concordps.org) if you need your ID. Breakfast orders must be placed by 7am the day of attendance and can be placed up to five days in advance.  Doors open for breakfast at 8:40am.  Lunch orders must be placed by 8am the day of attendance and can be placed up to five days in advance.  Per state regulation, the District is no longer offering grab and go lunches on Wednesdays.

Library Volunteers

Mrs. O'Rourke is looking for 1 or 2 library volunteers to check in and shelve books Monday - Friday from 8:50 - 9:15. She is looking for people who are able to commit to a weekly spot for the year. If you are interested, please email korourke@concordps.org and let Mrs. O'Rourke know what day(s) you are available. Thanks for your support!

Room Parents Needed

2024-25 Room Parents Needed! Being a Room Parent is not only rewarding but a great way to connect with Alcott, your child, the teacher and other families! This year the PTG is particularly excited to focus once again on strengthening community and building relationships. Room Parents have a big role to play here and we hope you will consider volunteering! If interested please sign up here.

Clothes and Textile Recycling

Contributing to the clothing drop-off bins at Alcott benefits the school community by providing the PTG with additional funds to support school programs and activities. This not only helps the environment by recycling clothes and linens but also directly enhances the educational experience for students and community. Click here for more information.

Volunteer!

Many hands make light work, and the activities of the PTG truly aren't possible without the many amazing volunteers who help make everything happen. Not sure what you want to do, or how to get involved? Fill out this short volunteer form and we'll get back to you about finding an opportunity. There is something for everyone: jobs to do at home after work hours, opportunities to be in the school with the students, even just a one-hour shift in the School Garden or selling popcorn at Movie Night. Everything helps, and it's fun!
