Helping Our Children Develop a Sense of Security in This World of Upheaval - Wednesday, November 16, 7-9 pm, CCHS - Upheaval, war and fear are not events new to this world. What is new is the access our children have to the details and emotions surrounding these events. Not only do they see images and hear about situations in more graphic detail than we wish, they also sense our own unease and anxiety about what is happening around us. As a result, we are confronted with the need to protect our children’s sense of safety in ever-more effective ways. In this discussion, we will examine ways to provide that sense of security. We will cover interaction styles and words that work to promote calm in our children, and words that, although well-intended, can have the opposite effect. We will also discuss how we, as caretakers, manage our own fears about what is happening. Please bring questions and concerns. You will leave with specific tools to help you and your children. Fee: $15; scholarships are available. Register at concordcarlisleace.org or by calling 978-318-1432.

ALCOTT NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Over 80 families came out for Alcott’s Annual Movie Night and it was amazing to see everyone together inside the school! BAD GUYS won the day by a landslide and Alcott students came to party keeping the popcorn machine rocking all night long. First, a sincere thank you to all the volunteers who made this happen. The concessions, set-up and clean-up crew all had NEW PTG volunteers this year showing our Community is rebuilding after the isolation of the pandemic. Second, a special thank you goes out to Elena Sukharsky and Jen Lichoulas who worked exceptionally hard in the last week to pivot from out outdoor event to an indoor one allowing us to accommodate everyone comfortably despite the weather. While this event is more about the Community, we want to share that it did also raise significant money - and remind everyone that our budget is used primarily for the Alcott Family Fund, School Supplies for the Classrooms, Supplemental Curriculum Programming, and Staff Appreciation. So, finally, the biggest thank you of all goes to YOU, our Alcott Community for participating, showing up and continuing to be generous in your support.

Update on Alcott Directory: Check your child’s backpack because.. (drumroll please) we are pleased to report that the Alcott Directory is hot off the presses! Looking to arrange a playdate with your child’s friend or remember the name of the specialist you wanted to email? Check out the directory! The PTG Board extends our gratitude to Sherry Lublin and Liz Gibbs, who spent every available free moment in September on this publication.

Alcott's Fall Bike-Walk-and-Roll Day was a Hit! Thank you to everyone who joined the fun in this fall's Bike Walk and Roll to School Day! We had beautiful weather for 90 kid bikers and scooters plus so, so many walkers! And this doesn't even count the younger siblings or parents on roller skates and skateboards. We hope you keep powering yourselves to school when you get the chance and can't wait to do this again in the spring! Check out photos of kids from Alcott, Willard and Thoreau biking to school and more information on the Bike to School Concord Facebook page! Special thanks go to Principal Krakow, Ron Holsinger of the CPD, MA SRTS, and all our parent and community volunteers. We couldn't have made this happen without you!

Thank you! The PTG would like to recognize three people in our community who are stepping up to work on some really great committees in the greater Concord Public School community. Sarah Sabatino, a 5th and 1st grade parent, will be working with Andrew Nyameyke on the Strategic Steering Committee on DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging). Additionally, Kate Grandbois (5th and 2nd grade parent) and Hilary Drake (5th and 1st grade parent) volunteered to be the Alcott School representatives for the 5 year Strategic Planning Committee for the Concord Public School system. This committee comes together to brainstorm ideas with educators in our schools to help create the vision and goals for the school system for the future. Kate and Hilary will be working with Dr. Laurie Hunter and representatives from Thoreau, Willard, CMS and CCHS to draft the goals and vision for our schools for the next five years. We cannot thank you all enough for stepping up into these very important roles!
