ALCOTT NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Over 80 families came out for Alcott’s Annual Movie Night and it was amazing to see everyone together inside the school! BAD GUYS won the day by a landslide and Alcott students came to party keeping the popcorn machine rocking all night long. First, a sincere thank you to all the volunteers who made this happen. The concessions, set-up and clean-up crew all had NEW PTG volunteers this year showing our Community is rebuilding after the isolation of the pandemic. Second, a special thank you goes out to Elena Sukharsky and Jen Lichoulas who worked exceptionally hard in the last week to pivot from out outdoor event to an indoor one allowing us to accommodate everyone comfortably despite the weather. While this event is more about the Community, we want to share that it did also raise significant money - and remind everyone that our budget is used primarily for the Alcott Family Fund, School Supplies for the Classrooms, Supplemental Curriculum Programming, and Staff Appreciation. So, finally, the biggest thank you of all goes to YOU, our Alcott Community for participating, showing up and continuing to be generous in your support.

Update on Alcott Directory: Check your child’s backpack because.. (drumroll please) we are pleased to report that the Alcott Directory is hot off the presses! Looking to arrange a playdate with your child’s friend or remember the name of the specialist you wanted to email? Check out the directory! The PTG Board extends our gratitude to Sherry Lublin and Liz Gibbs, who spent every available free moment in September on this publication.

Alcott's Fall Bike-Walk-and-Roll Day was a Hit! Thank you to everyone who joined the fun in this fall's Bike Walk and Roll to School Day! We had beautiful weather for 90 kid bikers and scooters plus so, so many walkers! And this doesn't even count the younger siblings or parents on roller skates and skateboards. We hope you keep powering yourselves to school when you get the chance and can't wait to do this again in the spring! Check out photos of kids from Alcott, Willard and Thoreau biking to school and more information on the Bike to School Concord Facebook page! Special thanks go to Principal Krakow, Ron Holsinger of the CPD, MA SRTS, and all our parent and community volunteers. We couldn't have made this happen without you!

Thank you! The PTG would like to recognize three people in our community who are stepping up to work on some really great committees in the greater Concord Public School community. Sarah Sabatino, a 5th and 1st grade parent, will be working with Andrew Nyameyke on the Strategic Steering Committee on DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging). Additionally, Kate Grandbois (5th and 2nd grade parent) and Hilary Drake (5th and 1st grade parent) volunteered to be the Alcott School representatives for the 5 year Strategic Planning Committee for the Concord Public School system. This committee comes together to brainstorm ideas with educators in our schools to help create the vision and goals for the school system for the future. Kate and Hilary will be working with Dr. Laurie Hunter and representatives from Thoreau, Willard, CMS and CCHS to draft the goals and vision for our schools for the next five years. We cannot thank you all enough for stepping up into these very important roles!

IN THE COMMUNITY

Message from Concord Education Fund: We at the Concord Education Fund (CEF) believe our teachers, staff and administrators are at the CORE of our students’ educational experience, patiently and creatively planting the SEEDS for future academic and emotional success. Join us this fall as we express our deep gratitude for the ways our schools have continued to innovate for and support our students. Join us virtually this fall as we are seeking to raise funds for our schools through community participation in the Apple Challenge. A $100 donation registers your family or small team for this virtual 5 mile Hike|Bike|Roll|Stroll, and includes a yard sign for display and event-weekend swag (including one CEF winter hat!). If you’re not able to participate in the Hike|Bike|Roll|Stroll you can still join in the fun by proudly displaying a yard sign for only $50! In addition, we are so very excited to celebrate our 30th Anniversary with you at our Fall Ball. We will be returning to Nashawtuc Country Club for a special night of celebration in support of our amazing schools! Buy one ticket for $100, or - better yet - become a BFF of CEF for $300. This special package includes a family registration for the Apple Challenge and two open bar tickets to the Fall Ball.

Here is a brief summary: "The Concord Free Public Library invites everyone to visit our Fall StoryWalk on Main Street, leading to the new Children’s Library entrance. The StoryWalk features Under My Hijab, written by Hena Khan and illustrated by Aaliya Jaleel. The story is told in cheerful rhyming text and charming illustrations through the eyes of a young Muslim-American girl who observes the women in her life wearing their hijab in a unique way. The book invites readers to understand and appreciate the hijab and to celebrate the Muslim women and girls who choose to wear it."
