Garden Club of Concord - Project Proposals

The Garden Club of Concord is soliciting proposals from Concord community organizations for projects that support the preservation, restoration, and development of gardens and the natural environment of the Concord community. The Club’s grants program is funded entirely by proceeds from its annual May plant sale. Organizations recently benefiting from a GCC grant include Concord Land Trust, Minuteman Arc, Orchard House, Concord Museum, Concord-Carlisle High School, and Concord’s Gold Star Families. A GCC grants committee meets each fall to review proposals and make recommendations to the membership for formal approval. Efforts to include native plants are especially appreciated. Whenever possible the Club avoids funding labor costs and non-plant material. Details and applications are available at gardenclubofconcord.org. The deadline for applying is October 11.

Need for METCO Family Friends Liaisons

Grade-level liaisons are the glue that keep the METCO Family Friends program going! They help connect everyone together at one grade level by reaching out to new families, fostering strong bonds by organizing occasional group playdates, and communicating with families to advertise activities. We have a few open slots (K/1st/3rd) - please contact Tanika or Meg if you can help. This isn't a huge time commitment, but it's so vital in being one more friendly face and point of contact in our network of families. Find out more about MFF here.

That can continue as the Alcott Chess Club is back for fun, but not in the sun. Instead, we sit in the Faculty Lounge, staring intently at the person opposite us, waiting for them to make their move. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? Seriously, chess is a game that opens your mind, gets you to think, to plan and strategize, to joust with opponents, and yes, to have fun. Win or lose...or draw, chess is fun. And we want you to join us. First class is September 19th, 8 a.m. in the Faculty Lounge. We look forward to seeing you! Complete details are provided here. For questions, email alcottchess@hotmail.com or call Ken @ (617) 332-4482. It's your move!
