News and Announcements

Message from the PTG President

Teacher Appreciation is always a wonderful week at Alcott, and this year has been no exception. I want to say a special thanks to Meghan Vigne and Shana Coy, our Teacher Appreciation Co-Chairs, for organizing a week full of food and fun for our wonderful Alcott teachers and staff. Thank you to all of the Alcott families who contributed funds, dropped off food, and wrote special notes of thanks. I've had the good fortune to spend a lot of time at Alcott this week, and I haven't been able to walk down the hall without someone stopping me to say how much they appreciate everyone's efforts. Weeks like this always remind me of the incredible generosity of the Alcott community.

With thanks, Abby Flanagan, Mom to Michael (Grade 2), Cora (Grade 1), and William (Pre-K)

First Annual Spelling Bee Recap

Alcott’s First Annual Spelling Bee was a huge success! A total of 95 students participated (29 teams across Grades 3–5), supported by 19 parent volunteers and emceed by Mike Besserer. Thank you to our Grade 3–5 teachers, Ms. Savoy and the Student Council for the beautiful banner, Mr. G, Mr. T, and Mr. Peachey for use of their spaces and tech support, and the Alcott PTG for helping bring the event to life. Special thanks to Brooke Hogan, Grace Giles, Kelsey Nicholson, and Becca Muse-Orlinoff for their extra support.

In the weeks leading up to the event, there was a real buzz around spelling, with students practicing together throughout the day and even on the bus. It was inspiring to see such teamwork and enthusiasm! We’re already looking forward to next year.

Congratulations to our winners:

  • Grade 3: The Villagers — Matthew Canisius-Madar, Edison Wu, Nathan Gould, Henry Manning

  • Grade 4: Just the Two of Us — Elise Brinker, Olivia Cardoso

  • Grade 5 & Overall Champions: Crispy Concepts — Vincent Ling, Mamadou Ismael Mbenge
